    Disc failure

Today my network stopped working and I don’t get any PI WU´s for about 19 hours. I had to restart both the modem and router and after that my AMD Athlon 1001 shouted down and restarted due to a serious failure. I got the network to work again and then I discovered my
AMD64 had got down and both led lamps shined (only one will shine when working). It was trying restarting itself but failed. I restart the computer but when it had come halfway it shouted down again. I decide to shout it down and wait. After an half an hour I started it up again and come to the page where I could start it in the wrong secure situation. It didn’t work and once again I restarted the PC. This time it ran Chkdsk and I got a lot of messages such: “The file post segment 100301 is impossible read” and showed many different numbers
Then I got a message such this: “Remove remaining file post segments.” I also got other messages as I not could write down because the length. When Chkdsk was finished the wrong block contained the file (loLogMsg.dll) was renamed or removed because I not could localise it. I had got this file already 23/3 and I don’t know what it is. The AMD64 is only a cruncher and I have a few times used it for Internet.
Now when I restarted it again Chkdsk begin work again and removed many wrong blocks and after that the CPU didn’t start up properly only use to restart and restart again. It works halfway during the startup process and then try restart again. I checked Bios setup but there was no message about what was wrong.

Should I reinstall Windows again or it is something wrong with the disc? I think if I must buy a new disc I yet must install WIN XP. Now I have only 2 cores at PI. What do you guys think?

There is a disadvantage for me because I don´t can hear if there is a bad sound from the disc nor can I feel of it holding my hands on the box. I can only feel of the bass tone not the treble tone.

If it were me I'd start with a new HDD and after all was well I'd try to sort that 1 out... Just my opinion...

Symptoms do point to a hard drive problem. Can you get to Safe Mode on re-starting (press F8 key during post) or does it always re-boot during the startup sequence?

No Vaughan, I have tried but it didn´t work. I only get the picture where i should press "DEL" to get to the BIOS or "TAB" as check the memorys and there is nothing wrong wth the memory. I know I should press PF10 to launch the Safe Mode but it wouldn´t work.

I'd get a new hard disc installed in it, they're cheap enough.

It sounds like a Hard Disc to me too, you can try & re-install Windows but if the Disc is bad it won't install verifying the Disc is bad.

When that happens to me I use the "suspect" disk as a second/third and get a new boot disk

I agree with everyone else, new hdd first then further diagnosis. Hopefully it's just the HDD rather than some weird IDE/RAID issue.

    Lagu,
I had the exact same thing happen to my 4800 last night. Once I figured out it was the drive I unpluged it and it came right up. One of my raid drives went belly up and it would get right to the point of Windoz starting a restart.
