    Hard Drive Enclosure

I'm looking at getting a hard drive enclosure to house a 500Gb hard drive (IDE or SATA not fussed).

If possible the less flashy lights the better. Prefer it to be under £25 as well...
Also want it to be fairly quiet. And not be fussed about ext3, NTFS, FAT32 etc.
It's to be used to start with, a linux system but then it'll be plugged into a "Slug"

I found this Coolermaster one that looks nice but not sure if it would be quiet (it doesn't have fan but the drive might be noisy and it's not fully enclosed?) and if it's placed vertically, the dust could get into the drive workings. See pics on the coolermaster site here.

I guess this one looks quite nice as well..

    Anyone used one they recommend?
    EDIT:
Doesn't even have to be a enclosure if you can recommend some decent sets. Ie the retail ones already with the drive in and sealed. I was thinking it might be easier to have an enclosure and buy a drive.

    Hi,

I have enclosures from this site: http://www.xpcgear.com/enclosures.html
You could do a search with these part numbers...The fans are pretty quiet.

    I have these.

Oh you have a slug as well? Whats it like? I've been convinced that it's a cheaper option to running a full blown file server PC. Also looks good and with some firmware updates I can run a website off it :D

Yeah the slug and drives would be sat in my bedroom on a shelf. I'll have two PC's churning away in there so anything to lower the noise is good.

I have not modded it, but I have been planning to 'Unslung' it. I am playing with Freenas as a replacement. I just need a file server now, and FreeNas may be a good replacement for the slug.

I have been waiting to modd the slug into a mail server or music server with the Unslung software. I did not want to loose my file server. So I have been looking for another slug (not looking too hard) for when I have a pause in the computer building.

I have had a few times when it has locked up, this requires a reboot. This may be caused by too may 'clicks' (requests) for files without letting it catch up with me. And some problems may be caused by the HD having spun down?

It transfers a little slow. But I have had it for a year or so. Low power, quiet. I still like it.

Try this place in the UK. I've used them before.

They seem a bit expensive Ototero. I was looking at either eBuyer or CCL because I have purchases going in next weeke to both of these for some bits and tacking the order one to one or the other is better. Saves postage.

EDIT: Just seen that there prices include postage...

Bender, I was looking at Unslunging mine when I get it. It will be my website server as well if I can get it sorted nicely.
