    WoW, that's cool. great specs.

I really should get an Opteron, just to say I've got one. I'll have to save up a little. What MB's work well with the Opteron?

Mitchell, can you send one of your computers to me in Sweden? Drool. Great power but we use to see how many points we have not RAC. If we look wish computer as have most point it is your AMD Athlon64 4200+ but of source if we look at RAC so are you right

    Bender10,

This is my first opteron setups, so I went with a dual Asus 1207 socket board. I guess you can still get 939 or 940 socket opteron cpu as well as the newer 1207 socket variety.

    Lagu,
heh heh, which on would you like? Yup, I'm not anywhere near the top wu's producer, so I was shooting for the top avg points per computer. Yes, I'm reaching here, but its still sorta a #1 record for me anyhow .....

If I went Opteron, Is the 22XX HE Socket F version a worthy purchase?

Do I have to populate both sockets on a dual-socket board, for it to work?

I went with this board. Its awsome, but a bit pricey. 346 at newegg
ASUS L1N64-SLI WS Dual Socket L (Socket 1207FX).

I actually bought a used pair of 2216's on ebay for 400.00, so I saved 50% in cost there. You could now get a pair of Fx-74's for around the same price as 2216 he opty's, and they run at 3ghz as opposed to 2.4. Yes you can run them as singles on this board also. This board will also accept the furture 4 core barcelona cpu when it comes out within a couple of months. So, you could then have 8 cores on this mb if you really want to sink some cash.

If you buy something new, make sure its am2 or 1207 socket stuff. That will give you some upgrade options for a bit anyhow. The 939 and 940 stuff is going by the wayside.

    Ok,
I looked at that asus board this morning.

I've tried to stick to the am2. I may try a venture into Opti land (after I save up a few pennies!).

    Thanks
