    Question General AMD CPU question.

Hey Guys, I just had a question...
What is better? a Manchester core, or a Toledo core?
I was looking at the 3800+, and you can get it either way, and the price is approx. the same too... I am confused.

p.s. I could google it, but that ruins the fun of a forum

Manchester has a smaller die and lower transistor count = 89w instead of 110w

You can't go wrong with a core named after the best football club in the world.. They should have named it the Manchester United Core.

Isn't the Toledo an A64 FX chip?

I think it is used in 939 X2's and FX's

Thanks guys, I think I might pick up the 89W one lol, save a little power.

I believe my opteron 165s and FX60s come up as toledo in cpuz. I think the Toledo has 1mb of cache where the other has 512k on the L2? I also remember the 4800 Toledo was to expensive when I bought it. I guess I helped AMD out a bit when I bought that one.

Sunday I popped out my 3800+ from my HP Media Center 939 socket and popped in a "not reccomended" (on my MSI Amethyst-M motherboard) 185 Opteron. Runs just fine and I have been able to tweak up my Majestic-12 output. Still testing to see how far I can push MJ-12 on it - but I do seem to have hit the wall of my broadband speed - rather than the processor speed. Can't seem to get over about 1,550 Kbits download speed on average.

The only reason I'm wasting this Opty this way is because the darn mobo I sent back to New Egg for replacement or repair is still doa. Having the Opty just sit there in the box seemed more of a waste. I have long suspected that the Opty, being a server-oriented processor, could handle communications better than the 3800+.

Yes very. Fotball is our counterpart to the Baseball in USA.
Once an AMDuser always an AMD user
