    Boinc is Broken

Ever since I had an update from MS this morning, BOINC is stuck after about 3 minutes of operation. Either BOINC has to alter there situation or Billy Bob Gates is going to hear an angry roar from the zillions of users, if this situation becomes worldwide!
For now my systems stay away from BOINC till there is a fix!

Like most of the AMD Users I am not an amateur at computers....

Just checked Windows Update, only recommended update I see for me is this:

    Update for Windows XP (KB927891)
    Date last published: 5/22/2007
    Download size: 1.2 MB
This is a reliability update. This update resolves an issue in the Windows Installer (MSI) that can affect performance during software updates. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

    Boinc is Broken

I have been bouncing the system several times and observing the Events Viewer till my eyes practically fall out. The instability issue correction from the update changed some parameters on the Windows Installer Utility, this has caused me to lose other programs as well. I have 2 bum tmp files - MSI63.tmp & MSI89.tmp that have been corrupted. This was during the Windows Update of May 22, 2007. Since then I have had many frustrations and I believe from talking to some other people in the IT world is the problem at large ==> Now how do we get a hold of Microsoft to tell them to fix there boo boo?

I run WIN XP sp 2 as the OS, I am running BOINC 5.8.15,, all this has to stay the same till I get those files fixed!

Clint, have you tried booting up in safe mode and deinstalling the update?

eitherway, go for http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=assistance choose your O/S and then get some online help from them.

Ok, so it is the update I posted. I'll stay away from that update for a while. Good thing I have Automatic Updates diasbled.

EDIT: You can try removing it using Add/Remove Programs. Check the "show updates box and find "Update for Windows XP (KB927891)." It's probably going to be a long list.

Well it seems I decided to look at my previous installs of Boinc and found that I upgraded to the newest Boinc Product the same day as the Windoze update.

The problem I will describe by observing the installation and removal of said Boinc different programs is that under Boinc's programs when you open the project your working on Something called slots of each individual cpu or core runs a work unit. Usually these work units are described by something you would see on your task manager/processes tab as showing up like: (tanpaku_68462_windows_intelx86 <==As an example). If you have two cores you see two of them, quad core 4 of them and so on. Boinc Developers have Slots made up for up to 64 cores preplanned in their Executable file, smart people.
The problem on my system is I have not got the usually bundled program which runs these individual cores separately. The individual components are listing themselves on the Task manager as engine_r1.exe and engine_r2.exe. All the processing power is now at 50% for each engine.exe, the intelx86 listings on the task manager are now at 0%. This has become my observation frustration, I am going to jump back to a previous date of working Boinc so that I may fix this frustration once and for all. I just can't remember how to return the system to a previous date? Maybe from Safe Mode? This is where I need your help Team Mates, I have been at this for 12 hours now, my brain is numb and my resources depleted. I think it is a selection from the control panel, but like I said the brain is functioning on numbness and that is without any alcohol yet, when I get my BOINC back then I will numb the frustrated noggin!

    P.S. System restore Failed
