    Boinc is Broken

Ever since I had an update from MS this morning, BOINC is stuck after about 3 minutes of operation. Either BOINC has to alter there situation or Billy Bob Gates is going to hear an angry roar from the zillions of users, if this situation becomes worldwide!
For now my systems stay away from BOINC till there is a fix!

Like most of the AMD Users I am not an amateur at computers....

Just checked Windows Update, only recommended update I see for me is this:

    Update for Windows XP (KB927891)
    Date last published: 5/22/2007
    Download size: 1.2 MB
This is a reliability update. This update resolves an issue in the Windows Installer (MSI) that can affect performance during software updates. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

    Boinc is Broken

I have been bouncing the system several times and observing the Events Viewer till my eyes practically fall out. The instability issue correction from the update changed some parameters on the Windows Installer Utility, this has caused me to lose other programs as well. I have 2 bum tmp files - MSI63.tmp & MSI89.tmp that have been corrupted. This was during the Windows Update of May 22, 2007. Since then I have had many frustrations and I believe from talking to some other people in the IT world is the problem at large ==> Now how do we get a hold of Microsoft to tell them to fix there boo boo?

I run WIN XP sp 2 as the OS, I am running BOINC 5.8.15,, all this has to stay the same till I get those files fixed!

Clint, have you tried booting up in safe mode and deinstalling the update?

eitherway, go for http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=assistance choose your O/S and then get some online help from them.

We don't crunch Boinc, we crunch "with" Boinc.

Now seriously speaking, the Boinc Alpha project is a closed project, and I don't think anyone here has an account on it, that's why unfortunately the AMD Users Team is not represented there.

Plus, I heard that it takes a bit of commitment from the participants, like running detailed tests with the alpha clients they release and reporting results or bugs found.

I prefer to just set it and forget it.

Ok, so it is the update I posted. I'll stay away from that update for a while. Good thing I have Automatic Updates diasbled.

EDIT: You can try removing it using Add/Remove Programs. Check the "show updates box and find "Update for Windows XP (KB927891)." It's probably going to be a long list.
