    AMD Performance in Doom

Here is an interesting article talking about Doom 3 on different machines and different setups. It shows that a big L2 cache on an AMD helps very little, while on the Intel it helps alot more.

Does AMD offer anything like Intel's Hyper Threading....

Sorry about the newbie question.... Remember I don't own an AMD....

No they don't. Remember though that hyperthreading doesn't help much at all in the amount of work done. It just makes the system feel more responsive to the user. I think in actual speed it helps something like 2 or 3% in some cases.

Well, there have been people who thought it helped alot in some DC projects because they could run two instances of it because it acts like you have 2 CPUs. The time given to completion would stay the same, say 1 hour, even if you were running two instances making you think that you would be able to do 2 in 1 hour! But this is just a flaw in the reporting and it actually ended up taking 2 hours to finish two. This really confused some people when it first came out on Seti@home.

Here is an article you might like to read. It showed a big increase from HT in some benchmarks but in real world tests it has been minimal. In some video editing programs having HT on slowed things down by as much as 30%. I think part of the problem is software using it properly but I am not sure on that. It has been a long time since I have looked into it so my memory could be failing me. LOL

I klnow it helped in Ubero though. I could run 3 instances and get almost 1800 per day with 1 PC.
