Which Linux for BOINC

I have almost convinced myself to build a new Linux box for BOINC. I have the parts for a X2 4200 cruncher in the computer dungeon.

I used to run Ubuntu to surf the web (old 450 mhz, retired). Should I stick with Ubuntu? Which version? Or is there a better distro?

I don't know if is better or not but I run Mepis 6.5 64 bit inside Parallels VM on them. I like it because it is easy to setup and actually runs right out of the box...

A lot of Boinc projects are optimized for windows, so some do not run as fast as windows ( IMHO).

I would check out the latest Ubuntu version, as well as Fedora core ... I think 7 is coming out soon :D

Ubuntu 7.04 is my distro of choice here. Runs right out the box and is good.

I just thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth! I have tried Fedora, FreeBSD and Red Hat too. I like Novell SUSE and Ubuntu the best!

Ubuntu 7.04 for me.

I built a box last weekend and put Ubuntu 7.04 on it. Installation was easy and fast (74GB Raptor helped!).

One minor problem was getting the video resolution right but I had to do a re-install and it then changed from 1024 x 768 to 1600 x 1200 so it partially corrected itself. I was trying for 1920 x 1200 but maybe I need a higher powered GPU to get that.
