    Slight problem

Yesterday my puter decided he should quit the job it was doing. It wouldnt enter windows anymore so i thought: hook hdd to mother's pc, then backup on my external disk (c partition). Then I let windows install again after I did a format of my c partition. all is good, windows works again. now comes the problem: i've managed to lose my mobo cd. that means I cant install any drivers. no drivers=no internet. now does anyone have an idea on how to install the driver without the cd. i tried downloading, but there is no exe file for installation. I have the MSI Neo FISR mobo. anyway, I now have another valid reason (for my parents, aka comp noobs) to order a new pc. I have exams coming up, but i cant wait to order, i want the new pc. and for the fans: it'll have a HD2900XT and an x2 3600+

You mean the 875P Neo FISR (PCB 2.0)?
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...9&maincat_no=1

Click on "Driver" link that is at the right of the name of the board, and you'll be taken to the drivers page. There you can choose everything you may need.
Pass them to the other computer through a pen drive or something, uncompress them (most likely they're zip or rar files) and run each of the drivers installers there (they must have a setup.exe or similar file in the uncompressed folders).

EDIT - There's a few different mobos with "Neo FISR", make sure to download the drivers for the correct one. It may or may not be that one I pointed out. That's the first one I found.

I tried installing them through a pen drive, but there isnt a executable file thats what's causing me trouble. If I could only have the lan drivers working, then the rest would be a piece of cake. I'll keep looking (btw just because i cant connect to the net, it doesnt mean I wont be crunching )

    Just a thought...

If these are DRIVER Files (not .exe), you may have to do a 'Install new Hardware' (or do an 'Update Driver' if the device is listed), and point the computer to the folder (or CD or Flash) you have downloaded the 'unzipped Drivers into'...
Logic is the art of being wrong with confidence.

I'm still not able to install the drivers, nor can I even access the network thing anymore. can you say fubar?

on another note, I was looking for installation tips and such on my fathers laptop, when he came to work on it. he was doing something and then he spilt his glass of wine on his laptop. I told him to shut off the laptop but he continued to mess with it (he mopped up everything though) now some keys wont work anymore. I hope when he starts up tomorrow the problem will be resolved. if it isnt, then thats a sad loss i'd say. Its a company laptop, but still...

Do you have a LAN card you could instal for just a short period of time to get to the net? I had to do that once when I couldn't get to my NAS (where all my backups are) or the Net and I had fresh installed my 'puter....

Then you could possibly get an .exe file of the drivers for the LAN card off a flash drive and <poof>, you are good to go...

that's a common way to lose a laptop, I am afraid.
Turning it off and letting it dry off for a day or two might have saved it.
Otherwise you get short circuits - eg keys not working.

    Back on your problem
I have to think that you have the wrong set of driver files then.
That is definitely not a Vista happy mobo, so I hope you are sticking with an earlier Win version.

In the mean time, you don't happen to have a Linux CD handy do you?
You could throw a linux distro on there in a FAT32 volume to regain connectivity and get the drivers onto the drive on the machine in a format the win OS will read.

If the occasion arose, I'd try that just for the fun of it.
It amuses me using linux to fix win OSs. ;-)

In the mean time you would have internet, BOINC etc...

I've finally managed to install the stupid driver. I first uninstalled the standard windows driver (which wouldnt work) and then I had some luck by stumbling across the new hardware install option. I clicked it and it installed the drivers as if it was nothing. So here I am again, freshly installed OS and at last a new email program (Mozilla Thunderbird). It feels good to have a clean pc.

and my dads laptop... the keyboard is fubar, the rest works. luckily he has a docking station at work so he doesnt need to use his laptop keyboard and it worked just fine he said
