There was a Distributed attempt some years ago set out to hurt and possibly stop known spam sources, called "Make love, not Spam", do you guys remember? All you had to do is have a net connection and run their screensaver.

Their screensaver would open connections and send data to the spam servers creating a kind of Distributed net attack, which even if not able to take them offline, at least get their bandwidth usage so high they would have higher costs for the spam they were sending.

Altough it was a noble idea, it had an unfortunate end, because the spammers simply re-routed all the web traffic they were receiving back to the project servers, forcing them to shut down in matter of days.

When I found out about it, it was already too late. I wish I had known earlier so I could have participated and sent some spam to the spammers as well.
