They won't see Christmas white. But I'll garooooonteeee this week end in NYC they'll see white. The NWS is saying near 100% chance of freezing rain, sleet and snow starting SAT afternoon into SAT night, those weenies never stick out their neck more than about 70% and their saying "near 100%"

I remember when I was in in Submarine school in Conneticut, during the winter of 1977 we had snow drifts up to and sometimes above the second story windows. Our country was still on good terms with the Iranians while the Shah was still in power and the US was teaching Iranian sailors at our school (we were selling their country some of our old diesel-powered submarines). Anyhow, we used to wait for the crowd of Iranians to come by and we (Americans) would launch attacks of snowballs flying through the air. We would catch hell if we were caught - but when did that ever stop a bunch of teenage guys? We also had some Australian sailors there as students, but not as many.

I was stationed in Limestone, Maine around then. The snowbanks by the roads were +8 feet high. We had more snow....seems like we were always shoevling snow....what a pain.

    It was great fun!!!

It is 43 degrees F. and gray. A very normal winter's day in the Pacific Northwest. We are going to get rain here but lots of snow in the mountains this week.

    Well,

The "Storm" has passed, leaving us (Northern Vermont) with ~16" of fresh powder. Right now it is a Balmy -9 C, and will get down to around -18 C (maybe much lower) tonight.

Sounds like a good time to throw a steak on the grill.....
