    AMD 9900 Compare

While the reality is this is a full write up about over-clocking the new Intel E8400 the processor they compare it to is the AMD 9900, which is pretty nice to see what a stock machine will do right out of the box!

    On with the Cat Calls!

E8400 looks appealing but for dc purposes I spose quads are the way to go.
    BTW....Anyone recommend a board for the E8400?

On the second page they inform you that " The Gigabyte X38-DQ6 was used for overclocking our new E8400 processor"

@PcManiac can you look into your employers know it all box of goodies and find out if the bug has been removed?

My Personal comment on this amazing device is on energy consumption at these higher outputs! Would it pull more energy running at 4.4 to 5.0 Ghz when compared to a Quad like the Q6600 running stock at 2.4 Ghz? If you can produce the same output from a Dual core with less energy demand then the figure of production is worth every penny. IF not, then the Quad is the way to go! Puzzling dilemma...

Hey, I am pretty sure the bug was only in the 9500, and 9600... I think it was first fixed in the 9600 black ed.

    Anyone else have some input?

yup quads are still the way to go for big outputs. It's real tough to beat the output of a q6600 running at 3.4 ghz + for a price of less than 300 US clams. I've just never had a processor in my possession that will run over 4ghz to toy with.

The 9900 looks very impressive. I hope it isnt to expensive i'd like to give one of these a shot when they are out. I imagine if they would have used DDR2 1066 we would see an even better performance?

From the few Reviews I've seen on it the AMD 9900 does quite well at Stock speeds against the Intel Q6700 so that's a plus for it but it has 3 things already against it.

    1. The Reviewers could only get it to Overclock to 3.0Ghz (Better Motherboards & or BIOS Improvements could bring that up some I guess)
    2. it's going to be priced around $350
    3. It's already been pushed back to the 2'nd Quarter of 2008 for release & that may be pushed back even further ...

So I can still go out & get a Q6600 for $100 less and run it 3.6Ghz+ which would make it a better deal. But for AMD People with Motherboards that will accept the new CPU it could be a better way to go to save some money ...

I got my new Wolfdale: Core 2 Duo E8400 in the mail yesterday. Hopefully I'll get this connected and do some 4-4.5 ghz runs shortly. Should be fun.
