    Replacing the Silicon Chip

    http://www.energy-daily.com/reports/..._Chip_999.html

This is looking far into the future, like 4 years from now, that is far isn't it?

Challenge me, or correct me, but don't ask me to die quietly.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that these people in the scientific/techie world that try to forecast down the road a few years are usually all wet. Four years I think is a wee bit overly optomistic. Look what the lead time is building new silicon chips, and how long it takes to get stuff rolling, and they already know how to build them. Maybe in four years possibly the IBM or some other such company may be playing with that in their labs trying to figure out commercial applications/possibilities. But I think meanwhile we are going to be using the old silicon chips for quite a while yet. Just my nickels worth.

edit: I mean like how long were they playing around with the cell? And that wasn't based on a new technology replacing silicon.... ????

"The newly discovered circuit element — called a memristor — could enable cell phones that can go weeks or longer without a charge, PCs that start up instantly, and laptops that retain your session information long after the battery dies."

    I hope this is true!
