bok's stats seem to be having more outages this last few weeks. They're generally very reliable. I wonder if it is a hardware issue?
bok's stats have gone off-line again
I could see a correlation indeed... unlike businesses that work monday-friday 8am-5pm, distributed computing is a hobby, which means it would have it's higher peaks after business hours and on weekends, as people are not usually checking their stats and doing things on boinc during the week while at work.
So the after hours and weekends are probably when all DC and related websites get their highest traffic and amount of requests, which means the stress factor for the hardware components increases greatly and any possible bad hardware will be at a risk of failure.
About the DDOS attacks I don't know, I haven't read about that one, but I'd conjecture that hackers also have day jobs so they mostly attack after hours and weekends too![]()

The DDOS attacks on PrimeGrid were carried out by GridCoin client software, scraping stats from the PrimeGrid website. They/it can likewise be active at FreeDC -if these are bots the developers of the GridCoin client are to blaim of course.
FreeDC is having troubles today
Looks like a new crash at Bok's side of things....
Server was hit by a power surge this morning. Bok has been trying to repair the databases all day. Only one table on one of the databases to go, but it's giving him issues. He had to bring the site down to stop the connections coming in which are holding things.
And the site is down again.
