Apple May Ditch INTEL
Challenge me, or correct me, but don't ask me to die quietly.
…Pursuit is always hard, capturing is really not the focus, it’s the hunt ...

If AMD is the replacement, they will be able to strike back a bit more because of better sales, thus better research, etc....
-
Dollars to donuts it isn't AMD. If power consumption (as alleged by the comment in the url about the intel chips) is a concern, the new AMD stuff sucks lots of juice also. And I can't see Apple cutting way back on CPU power (ie ghz). So it will be interesting to see what does come out.

who else IS there? nano doesn't compete at all except in power consumption. it would be a huuuge step back, even for iBooks...

I dont see apple using via processors lol. maybe they will ask ibm if they can use the cell processor, but that would threaten ibm's own products. since intels dumped, I'd say theres only one left then
-
i doubt they'd use cell (i doubt IBM would care, either, if they used it). too much effort to program for it...
this is kinda interesting, however:

but this is very much in the realm of speculation and rumor ;)

There is some interesting reading there Plonk. I would really be surprised if Apple went with either Intel or AMD. The Nvida thing is definitely something that would be do-able whether they teamed with VIA, bought licensing from them, or did a Transmeta type thing. Of course there is always the possibility that instead of an Nvida thing, they could do a AMD/ATI combo chip/GPU whatever. But I don't think that AMD would be in a spot really to do that given their current and recent struggles to get the Phenoms out the door.
