at THAT many machines, wouldn't replacing them with 4-8 i7s be more energy efficient?
a friend and i calculated that the energy saved between an Atom and a 939 Athlon 64 was $20 in a year. not enough to pay for itself... at least in 4+ years... however, with 27 machines, i wonder what the difference would be...?
edit: oh, reexamining your number of units crunched in a day, it might take 16 (give or take 4) i7s to do the same number of units (if seti is a benchmark for the number of units an i7 would make in a day). THAT wouldn't pay for itself very quickly ;)
