I hate to throw an old work horse in a race with a bunch of thoroughbreds, but here's a first gen. Opteron for the dual core race 1059233

just had a thought about these 3 cores, what if someone's got one with the 4th core unlockable, as far as the project would know it's still a 3 core, then pair it up with a single core and the user would end up with 5 cores in the quad race.

The 3 core CPUs are a quad with a locked core? Guess you learn something everyday.

Rumours say that its kind of a recycling process for quad-cores that come out with a defect on one of the cores. They lock the defective core in someway and sell it as triple core.
Don't know if it's true, but as long as the remaining three cores work allright, and the price is right, I guess it's a good plan, and minimizes waste.

i want to sign up for quadcore, but i think i'll be slightly late. need to even install os afresh (unless there's another way i can force a new computer id), including win7 7100/RC1 (currently running Beta 1/7000).
