I have a 4850 that's running pretty hot too on distributed.net. I would like to add a koolance water block to it as it is running over 80C. I hope the new cards run a bit cooler then this as the water blocks aren't cheap

So that dual one costing near $1,000(US) might raise the bar above 5 TeraFlops!

If you can find a motherboard that can take 4 of those and a Phenom II or an i7, you might as well sign up for the Top500 Supercomputers list!

Yes you need to crunch first.
When you start the client you should insert your username in the config.
(it should ask you to, otherwise the points go to the great collective in the sky)

After you show up in stats within the next 24 hours, you should receive an email with a password.
The email tells you how to go to the stats page for AMD Users
The project team name is "AMD-Users"
    We have a forum here

Probably a combination of small hands, and some slick photography. :-)

We have obviously entered the day and age of the GPU race, like we were in with CPU's a while back. And it appears that they will be trying to extract max bux from the purchasers too, just like with the release schedules of the CPU's of days not too far past.

Keeping things in a bit of perspective though, if they are talking $1,000 for the 58xx, then the prices are rising rapidly even though it is a powerhouse of a card. Take a look at the prices of the workstation gpu's, some of those were/are up to 3500 US bux.

Myself I justify the purchase price of gpu's based purely on what it would cost me to purchase cpu's to do the equiv amount of work. So from that end of things, the gpu's are a bargain. Just depends on how much you are into a project and how much you care to spend to play. Things are really starting to move in the desktop parallel processing world and it is good to see that multiple projects out there are taking advantage of the huge gains in computing power.
