Thread: Facebook

It already puts the link to the team on the post to facebook in my BOINC milestones app (if you are a member of a team that is) - happens for everyone though the link back is dependent on having a correct url on the projects team settings but that's usually correct.

Always a good way to advertise your team

I've actually had 6 people mail me via the app to say they have joined BOINC directly because they saw a post from my app on one of their friends walls

    Bok

    Hi guys,

I know some people are rightly worried about the availability of their personal information.

Facebook has configuration options in place to allow you to specify which parts of your profile are available to others.

I would create a facebook group "AMD Users Distributed Computing Team" or similar. Each member here that wanted to join it would need a facebook account. It's up to you what information you add to it and make available to others. Then you could join the new group.

When you join the group, your facebook friends will be able to see the group on your page, they might then join, then group would become available on their profile pages, and perhaps then their friends join too etc... (or that's the idea anyway).

The point is... For it to have the effect of increasing the numbers here, it's best for you guys to have a facebook account and join the new facebook group. If you set up a facebook account "minimally" (don't add your employment history for example), and then review the privacy options (eg specify that friends of friends cannot see your profile etc), it should be safe. It's up to you to ensure that only people you trust can see your information.

Perhaps I'll go ahead and create the group, I can always close it at a later date.

Shnal, is it possible to give Nflight editing permissions? He had some ideas with the info from the wiki that might be good.
