Droids and iPhones

I have neither but have been looking at the hardware specs of these next generation phones, and they are impressive... especially the htc droid, with a 1GHz cpu.

Seems like the whole new buzz about phones is the apps they can support, and for better apps they got to have better hardware so I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of generations in the future these phones will be as powerful as the EeePC's.

Now... how long do you guys think it will take for a project to run on one of these phones?

Ok... I found a problem that can be bad if you wanted to use your HTC EVO for distributed computing...

And the battery life isn’t just bad, it’s 90′s laptop bad. You need to be near a power source at all times.

And that quote is about the phone in normal conditions, not when crunching!

My bad... There already is 1 project that supports a droid phone!

I wonder... if the battery problem of the HTC EVO is that bad, droid users won't have that great of an uptime...

There's a few problems with serious projects on iPhones/iPads though, and most others to follow besides just the battery aspect. If you look at the push by AT&T to change their charging structure and data plans for the new iPhones/iPads, the costs are going to rise quickly for anyone that really gets into consuming bandwidth. Just one issue, but an important one. Meanwhile the new phones consume more bandwidth with their broader capabilities. So the application developers will be taking advantage of that to some degree. I've got an iPhone now, and I really like the phone. However I don't intend to purchase a new one because right off the bat you are moved into a new plan.

nope, it's a HTC droid aris on verizon, although I do leave it plugged in most of the time while I'm on the road driving truck.
