Since we're having a POEM challenge and I got some stats tools here, I thought I would do some statistical analysis on POEM's workunits and the CPUs running it... here's what I came up with...

For hosts running Windows 7 (x64) and crunching the WUs of the batch "data_447". They are among the most commonly distributed. The following values are of Credits/hour/Core... so for quad cores multiply that by 4, for i7's multiply it by 8.



As you can see, on core vs core AMD has a bit of an advantage here. But Intel i7's work with 8 (virtual) cores, while Phenom IIs only work with 4 or 6. Those values up there have to be multiplied by the number of cores.


Disclaimer: Of course this is in no way a sure guide to performance of processors, this was based on a small sample of Workunits that were analyzed, with very specific settings (Windows 7 x64, >1Gb RAM, WU batch "data_447"). Different operating systems, and other variables may change these values.

After these first few hours we are ranked 8th overall. I don't know if this was pure crunching or due to midnight WU flushes, we will have to see how it develops.

I got 1 SIMAP workunit!

This is going to be tough if we can't even get work. Boinc keeps contacting the website but the reply is always the same "Project has no jobs available".

I managed to get some SIMAP work. Haven't done this project in months since I keep forgetting they only give out work once every month. I grabbed so much work the server told me the limit is 120 tasks in progress.

Yup, before I only got 1 WU, but seems now the flood gates were open!

I already suspended POEM for the time being to fully concentrate on these WUs... they're gonna be over in no time. I wonder if there will even be enough to get through the contest...

We are hanging in there against some very strong teams in POEM and SIMAP!

We are currently ranked 9th on the POEMAthon, and 8th on the SIMAP challenge.

This is not going to be easy guys, we got to keep pushing hard just to maintain ourselves on the Top 10.

After several days we are still going on strong on both challenges, we are really holding down our ground... 8th on the SIMAP challenge and 10th on the POEMAthon!

I see there was also a dnetc@home race that we missed signing up for.

Yea, there are plenty of challenges popping up... we got to choose well which battles to fight. Have you checked the WCG website lately? I had seen it last week and there was like only 2 or 3 upcoming challenges for August, and now it's over a dozen.
