Back from the dead
Been a long time, fellas. I was going though some computer stuff (spring cleaning 6 months late) and was trying to piece together some usable machines to give to family/friends/whatever. and I just couldn't resist stopping in to say hi.
Oddly, I've hardly used anything other than my netbook for the last year or two and for a good chunk of that time my work desktop computer was the only "real" computer I had hooked up. The work computer just got refreshed with the best of my old hardware. I have to admit I'm feeling a bit nostalgic and I want to throw some WU's at the beast for old times sake. So if anybody has any project recommendations for an old AMD vet to crunch a little with a single ancient 939/dual-core, lets hear 'em.

Simap will work just fine on a AMD dual-core, LHC too -provided they have work-, as will Malaria, Einstein and lots of others. Just installed an old HD3870 that I bought 2nd hand, it can crunch a Milkyway WU in just 8 minutes!

Hey mitro... long time no see!
I can only wonder the surprise you must have felt when you saw the new website design.
There are some very reliable established projects out there like World Community Grid and Rosetta@Home for human sciences research, or PrimeGrid if you're more of a prime hunter, or the age old SETI if you prefer to look for what is "out there".
There are great projects to run on GPUs that give you bucketloads more credits than by normal CPU. Like Dirk suggested there is Milkyway, and also GPUGrid, DNETC@Home, Collatz Conjecture, and more.
And also if you're not interested in BOINC and prefer the old custom applications (some people still do), there's the always present Distributed.net, Folding@Home, Seventeen-or-Bust, or a popular prime hunting project called No Primes Left Behind.
Those are just some of the projects... I think there is close to 100 available projects of all kinds out there these days. Not all of them have constant flow of work, and many don't even get beyond beta status but it's always fun to try.
I'm glad to see you around mitro, hope you can come by more often.
