Audio Chip Creep - Huh?
Listen I had to write this down as this is a first for me. I have had this computer for more then 5 1/2 years now. So many upgrades including going from the 3500 series chip to the current 4200. Upgrades on memory and then on additional items like I blew the pwr supply this summer when the moisture level went to high.
Since my system returned after my pwr supply fiasco back in late June I had lost Audio output, yes I missed all the noises that come through the speakers from all my miscellaneous friends and relatives. I have been thinking that I lost it by kicking one of the wires under the table maybe. So today after receiving so many different audio supported news articles I went ballistic. I uncovered my demise was that accidentally kicking off the wiring. Nothing was out of its socket it just seems dust and cobwebs embedded themselves near the edge of my connections and caused chip creep to occur.
I am free I can hear again, oh the joy, the senses are rejoicing once more. Back to Top Gear on You Tube... laterz

yikes... sorry to hear that... was it bad capacitors on a biostar by chance? We have been finding more and more bad caps in crunchers and devices. I have recently found 4 motherboards, a 24 port netgear switch (js524), visiontek 1950 pro video cards 2 of 3 so far. The netgear switch was the worst one for me as the tech support was rude and not very helpful with company policies. It is their fault they picked cheap capacitors in a device that should last and should be problem free in larger networks then mine. I will now stick with trendnet for my network switches as they run cooler and seem to work better for me.
I hope you can get it replaced and back online in the near future.

Still no word from the tech shop I took it too... So sad right now!

It was catastrophic failure, Seems I had a power surge, it could have been one similar to what blew my power supply back in June. The system was a total wreck, I am angry and frustrated but I gave up some crunching power due to my lack of funds. I handed over some extra's I had scrounged and one GPU ( PCI carded monster for credit) IN all I spent $190 for a new Motherboard, new memory, new cpu, and a new nic card. I now have a MSI mb running a AMD 5400+ with 4 gig of ram which I think is DDR2.
NOw for the worst news I can't run the systems very long right now as the temperature outside the house has been so hot it is coming down into the basement that has no cooling available. 102°F is just really uncomfortable in the shade this time of year. That was Thursday, Monday started the week off with the temperature hitting 94°F. It stayed above 95°F until Thursday really blew everyone away, and everybody's lawn shows a brown tint, the grass is dead everywhere. Crops are wilting, streams are all but dried up, the world does not look very nice right now. They want another day of 94°F today, so I am not even going to look outside if I don't have too.
When the temps come down I will spend more time on my computers, for now I have to sign off as the temps are nearly 86°F in the basement. I typed this to let everyone know my computers will not be putting much out except when I turn one on to check email and such.
Thanks signed Mr. Overheated!

Well... we can't make the world a cooler place, or sue the power company every time there are power surges or outages... so, we have to adapt ourselves to the environment we are in.
Seeing how you say that it wasn't the first time you had one of those power surges (and we can safely assume it will not be the last) I would say you should invest on safety for your next purchase instead of a new cruncher or GPU... invest on a bigger and stronger circuit protection system (circuit breaker... or UPS?) that will keep your systems running ok even if the power outside your house is going haywire due to thunderstorms.
I am blessed to be on a place where the power (or lack of it) has not been a problem yet, but if it ever becomes I think I would first invest on it, and only after that is secured I would think of new puters. It's one of the foundations of a healthy pharm.
