hard drive prices going through the roof

So I have been having in the plans to someday build a dedicated home NAS, with at least 5 hard drives, and to my surprise as I have been checking hard drive prices they all spiked through the roof! 2Tb and 3Tb hard drives just doubled price in many online stores.

After digging around online a little I found that apparently with the floods in Thailand, it seems the hard drive industry (and possibly others) has been severely affected.

Here's a quick quote from an article I found:
...the average price of Western Digital's 1.5TB Caviar Green series' internal drive on Pricegrabber has shot up from $162 to $280 over the past five days.

It has already impacted some manufacturers forecasts about a week ago
There is quite a buzz about it.
It is not just HDDs that are affected.
The floods swept through the main tech manufacturing area.
All kinds of tech are going to run short until they get cleaned up and back into operation.
It is unfortunate timing for the retail sector coming up to holiday season.
Spare a thought for the many thousands millions directly affected in Thailand.
The shear size of it is mindnumbing
