New BOINC project Linux application is working, Mac OSX application errors out but Project Admin says he'll work on it. No Windows client applications yet.

Well this is frustrating ... I cannot get any tasks on the Gentoo box. My son says its just BOINC being typically stoopid. Some standard error message along the lines of no work available for your type of computer.

    Getting Linux work now.
BobCat13 is way ahead of the game - Project Rank#1.

    Caution:
Initial WU estimate is about 8 mins and deadline is about 24 hours
Actual run time is (on average) about 1hr 10mins.
So BOINC downloads lots of work right away and BOINC goes into "Running High Priority" mode
If you join, be quick to set "No New Work" until the first few WUs are done then open the gate again.

Progress indicator does not work properly.
Suspend and resume does work properly.
Points are mildly better than average.

Once I get the first-flush sorted out it looks like it should be good for my LInux boxen.

    Also should add:
    small d/l and small u/l
although most wu are 1hr 10min to 1hr 40 min, there are some that finish quickly around 35 min and a couple of longer ones at 1hr 50 mins.
So there is a little variation.

Suggest you install the ia32 extension package:

Without the ia32 package on a 64-bit arch system, the 32-bit client cannot run and the 64-bit BOINC manager knows this.
Set - no work on the project.
use 'emerge' to get the package through Portage and install it.
(Not sure if you will have to recompile - I ain't been to Gentoo successfully yet so I can't tell you that one - enabling ia32 could require a Gentoo Kernel flag - not sure)
If you don't have to recompile you should just be able to "Accept new work" and away she goes.
If you still have an issue, stop the boinc-cmd background process and restart it
That will cause it to re-assess its environment, realize that it can now do x86 (32-bit) tasks and away you go.

    HTH

    /edit - assuming that you don't have it installed already - otherwise I'm at a loss - edit/

Unfortunately, CruncherPete of BOINC@AUSTRALIA is going to perform Smack-Fu on BobCat13 in the next 24 hours.

I'm still scrubbing his tire marks off the back of my head. :P

In response to a post by Zombie67 (in the OSX thread), I posted in their forum about the initial estimate and short deadline.
Perhaps they will adjust these to more sociable parameters.

The admin has responded and has made an adjustment to the estimates.
(He already extended the deadline from 24 to 48 hours)
