    Gerasim 'pending' build-up

Since the change of work type I have noticed that Gerasim soaks up pending wu's like crazy.
It seems as though their scheduler hands out a lot more tasks on new work units than tasks that would complete a validation.
After accumulating 38 pages of 'pending' I thought I'd better look into it.
I have posted SerVal to ask if he has considered changing the amount of new work handed out relative to the pending validation work units.
It would be nice to see some score increase in the same month that the work was done.
Perhaps that would encourage more participants to stick with it.

I like this project and it has a good supply of work units no doubt it they could raise the value of the work unit course more people would latch on to this project and run with it! Nice AMDave that you took the time to reach out and explain the concept of change is good to the admin. Lets see if the change occurs as you suggested.

    SerVal replied.
Apparently the validator had stopped running.
He has fixed it and we got a nice big stats update

    Hey Serval.
I see you keep stopping by and checking this forum.
    Thanks for your attention.
I got a "Bok" on your project. while checking out your project status.
I'm sure I'll be back for more soon when I check up on the project again.

Gerasim site is very slow to respond today. I have many tasks waiting to report but I have to click to send updates multiple times until I can get them to move. Very time-consuming. I tried leaving them to pile up but the numbers got too large. I think Serval needs a bigger pipeline to the Internet.

    Good afternoon.
    2 AMDave:
Oh, this is Bok's "Loading Stats Data ..."..
I read in his blog that he bought in the spring of a new server.
I do not understand why everything is so slow. May be host-stats (large files) so slow down the response?

.. while checking out your project status.
Maybe Bok uses IP-address to get the status of the project ? But on the same IP-address may be a number of projects.
I believe that the use Boinc-RPC solve the problem.
At least 2 requests Gerasim-server provides the standard answers.
    Server status: http://gerasim.boinc.ru/server_status.php?xml=1
    Scheduler status: http://gerasim.boinc.ru/sched/gsm.sched

    2 voughan:
Thanks for the support of the project.
I remember that you helped when Gerasim still only took the first steps.

Gerasim site is very slow to respond today
    - This is most likely a coincidence.
Saturday and Sunday - days, that I use to update the project. Last weekend I updated the Upload / Download server.
Several times I forbade upload and download tasks, Upload / Download server was working under a debugger ..
Please accept apologies for the inconvenience.

    BTW:
By default, Boinc Manager reads/writes two files simultaneously.
    Why not increase to eight?

Add into the file C:\ProgramData\Boinc\cc_config.xml the following lines:

    <cc_config>
    <options>
    <max_file_xfers> 8 </ max_file_xfers>
    <max_file_xfers_per_project> 8 </ max_file_xfers_per_project>

    </ options>
    </ cc_config>

(if file not exist - create it)

I think Serval needs a bigger pipeline to the Internet.
Now the speed of access to the Internet 10 MBit / sec and used for no more than 10%.
The high speed will result in additional costs, which is highly undesirable.
    *****
Currently, all workunits have a quorum = 3( tasks per WU).
As you know, it's not the best option. To speed up the calculations, I offered to transfer some workunits on quorum = 2.
The proposal was rejected by the scientific director E. Vatutin.
    But in the next set of workunits 2 / 3 will have a quorum = 2 and 1 / 3 of quorum = 3.
If all goes well, in future, all workunits will have a quorum = 2.

    About CHECKPOINT:
Chekpoints yet little curves. They occur every 15 minutes.
If the calculations were continued after chekpoint, granted credit will be based on the time period after the checkpoint.
That is, if the calculation took about 5 minutes after the checkpoint, the participant will receive a credit to 5 minutes of calculation.

The task will be calculated correctly, but the main income - to the project.
("This is not a design flaw .. it is a design feature.")
We can not promise to fix this in the near future, but we will try.

Thank you for the detailed information Serval. It is a pleasure to have a Project Administrator visit and post in our AMD Users forum. I now appreciate why I was having some problems uploading to your site and why there was a build-up of pending tasks.

I find that Gerasim@Home is a very solid project and worthy of continued support.

    Happy crunching!!!
