some people might have difficulty reaching our website

    Hey guys

I just got the biggest scare yesterday, at some point in time I had no more connection to the AMD Users website. It just showed a generic searches page that had nothing to do with us. I thought we had lost the domain, and bluehost cut us off. I even emailed Dave for him to confirm me if something had happened.

Now that I am at work, I can see the page perfectly, so it might be an issue with the ISP I am guessing, because the ip address I was getting for amdusers.com was 8.1.5.34 (or something like that...), and here from work I can see the page and the IP address is 74.220.219.79.

Of course I still didn't do the reboot test (reboot fixes all problems) but the amd users site was the only one off, from a list of several that I check daily, so I am thinking it might be the ISP DNS server, which would mean more people like me would be having problems...

Anyways... just to let you guys know... I don't think we can do anything even if it's ISP related...

I saw we had a DNS problem yesterday morning, but I have seen them before, from my location, due to a bad cache.
I hadn't expected it to last so long, but it was still down when I got home from work.
so I emailed spjeff69 and he fixed it for us right away.
The DNS propagation was pretty quick, all said.
    Sorry about the delay.

I just saw the string of emails you sent me about it Dave. Thanks for keeping me up to date! I just need to check my email more frequently... lol

Thank God it was just DNS cache... I got scared for a while there...

EDIT: I am posting this from home, where just last night I could not see the website at all.

Why not create an archive thread for inactive topics / closed projects?

Semi on topic: I noticed that we have some threads that are inactive (no posts in years) or are for projects that have shut down. Why not remove those threads from the main forum page and put them into a single archive folder? That way they can still be accessible, but not take up as much room on the main forum page.

The idea is that the retired and inactive topics shouldn't even show up when the page loads, just an archive folder. This should make it a bit easier to locate and read forum topics.

Great idea. The list is getting huge. We'll see what we can do.

I don't see an easy way to build in a 'hide inactive forums' feature on the forums page.

I have moved more retired projects into the Retired category at the bottom of the Forum page.
If you don't want to see the retired projects, click on the chevron at the right-end of the green category bar.
That will 'roll-up' the retired projects.

If you only want to see active topics, click on the "What's New" link on the main menu.
That should show you only the threads that have been posted to since your last visit.
You can easily use that as a bookmark and that might give you the optimum short list that you are looking for.
