machine error
right now i have a bit of a problem with my machine as i cant get any shortcuts or anyhting to work. then only way i can access certain stuff is through ctrl alt del and click new task "iexplore" for example. nothing in my startbar comes up but the mouse changes to its loading timer pose.
any ideas,
i dunno if marmot / turtle caused this but i hav eonly had the problems since i installed it ????

i seem to have solved the problem by running my anti virus, spyware removal etc now they are finding loads ????
when i ran them last night they found nothing but now AVG got 2 viruses and spybot a good few infected files.
this was the hardest one to lose: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/anal...jhaxdoorh.html

Wernt you running AV all the time ???
-
yep, it runs all the time
but real time virus protection isnt that greta unless you pay - i have tried panda [free version] (which is suppose to be best real time) but i got fed up with balloon popups that blocked everything.
machgine seems good now though, hopefully some other programs will work now as i have been stuck with 17 - i think that saved me though as no-one could do anyhitng on my comp seeing as on normal all the processor was used. trojan writer prob thought i had a crap old machine if they tried to access me.

I scan for viruses, check for spyware, and run ad-aware 1 time per week.... Is that enough????
-
personally i think 2 to 3 times a week is a better choice. I run spybot every day and my nortons checks my system every other day at 3am.
-
I don't go to too many websites or download anything so the ad-aware and spyware hardly ever find anything.
-
Depends on how your network is configured at the time.
The PC running my internet connection gets the most attention.
The others are at least once a week. More often (with max heuristics) if I'm suspicious of something or if I see a newby on the prowl.

Daily automatic virus scan of entire system - AVG 7 registered.
AdAware SE 1.05 and Spybot 1.3 prior to any internet banking session (so its at least once a week).
PC used for dial-up internet connection also has TDS-3 (Trojan Defence Suite) registered version and ZoneAlarm Pro registered version.
Cable internet via a router that has NAT. Confirmed my systems are stealthed by running Gibson Research security checks.
Switched from Internet Explorer to FireFox too.

I think you got all bases covered ;)
