July 2014 Competitions
With the 2014 Football World Cup underway all BOINC competitions seems to have come to a sort of stand-still.
There's only three -of the team kind- programmed for July so far, two for Seti@Home and one for theSkyNet POGS:
July 07 to July 08 - [Twenty Four 021] Heinlein Day Crunch
Twentieth edition of the serie of challenges between teams [Twenty Four] issued by the french team BRIGADE DU COSMOS. [Twenty Four] serie of challenges aims to celebrate an important day of the year. 24 hours of intense crunch tribute to this day ! For this [TWENTY FOUR 021], we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the great American Science-Fiction writer, Robert Anson Heinlein (1907-1988). A crater on Mars was even baptized with its name !
Happy crunching to all.

July 09 to July 11 - In memory of William A. Bradfield, Comet Hunter (1927-2014)
William A. Bradfield, the mild-mannered comet hunter of South Australia, died on June 9, 2014, at age 86. His remarkable tally of 18 comets, each discovered visually and credited to him alone, puts him among the most prolific and elite comet discoverers of all time. - See more at: http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astro....3Dg2QsaI.dpuf

Got my first trophy this SkyNet POGS challenge (and my 106th in total):
The Apophis (999,420 cr)
Known as 99942 Apophis is a near-Earth asteroid that caused concern in December 2004 when initial observations indicated a small probability (up to 2.7%) that it would strike the Earth in 2029.
There seems to be yet another trophy at 1,000,000 cr...but as I discovered it was actually three:
Belongs to: Storage Wars
The Hard Disk Drive, vital part of any computer that you want to actually do stuff with. They've been around since the dawn of computing - 1956 saw the first HDD, with a 3.75MB capacity it was bigger than a car! Now available with storage in the TBs. (Awarded for achieving 1,000,000 credits)
Belongs to: Classic Trophies
The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy, 100,000 light years in diameter. (Also awarded for achieving 1,000,000 credits)
Belongs to: Elementals
Neon is very rare on Earth (despite the signs that are named after it) but is the fifth most common element in the Universe. Imagine the neon sign you could make with a nebula's worth of this noble gas!(Again awarded for achieving 1,000,000 credits)
Next credit-based trophy is at 1,343,400, but you can also get credits for your level of RAC, the number of galaxies explored or even the number of days you are with the project.
