I was just thinking, someone should put all this info on a webpage, along with as many other projects we can, and keep it as a reference for when anyone asks about what projects to run.

i have a big minus point at yoyo@home (ecm)
the WU need up to 2GB RAM it's not long but they need for a few minutes this much. I'm also not sure if yoyo could create WU with less RAM. I will talk with him.

I also think about a race section in the rechenkraft.net-wiki.
Linux is like a wigwam. No windows. No gates. Apache inside. http://debian.org

Wow... 2Gb is alot of RAM per WU, are you sure of this?

My old faithful AthlonXP 2000+ only has 1.5Gb of RAM so I guess it would get complicated to run it here.

And that means that a quad-core system would need 8Gb of RAM installed to run ECM on all cores... 16Gb even if it was an Intel with hyperthreading active... that is alot of RAM.

Can anyone confirm this? Is it for all WUs, or hopefully only a few rare WUs need this much RAM?

yup, confirmed. Yoyo is memory intensive.

DOH!!!! I forgot all about that, it's not every wu but enough that it would cause problems. so I guess yo-yo is out all together.

I "retired" Yoyo on the account of those insane ram requirements. Indeed not everyone has that much RAM to be capable of fully running Yoyo-ECM on multiple cores.

    Hi,
maximum RAM required by ecm is currently up to 1.8GB. If you don't have this amount free Boinc will not download new wus. Also during runtime of the WU Boinc checks periodic the free memory and will stop the wu with "waiting for memory". These high RAM wus are such named with ecm_mp_*.
Currently I do not really know at which point I should limit required RAM. I can reduce the max amount, but than the WU will run ~10% longer.
    yoyo
