I love it when someone takes things that little bit further than you thought it could go:

Now that's one HONKING GOOD video card!
PS - per the article, the pack includes "a CrossFireX interconnect for those that dare CrossFire the ARES". More than one???? :icon_mrgreen:

At 572 watts under load, I'm not sure I'd want to have two of those, would be nice to see the total current draw with two of those crunching though. Can you imagine the output of two of those though? My 5770 cranks out a Collatz wu in under 10 minutes already. :)

I don't think it would be worth it unless you setup 4 in crossfire.

ha ha ha. You are being funny.
"Notice that the card is thicker than a traditional dual-slot graphics card, so be ready for one of these cards to take up three slots on your motherboard!"
They take 3 slots each.
I don't think I have seen a board anywhere with 12 slots that would let you CrossFire 4 of those at once.
It would be more than a little awesome though.

water blocks would be a must for these cards... then you could say good bye water heater....your not needed anymore with 4 of these. I think my MSI board has 5 PCI-e slots. I think it would fit 4 with water blocks, but not sure how well crossfire would work. It would be great for GPU crunching and providing heat for water heating.

Some lads got a bit bored and slapped together 4 NVidia GTX480s on an XL-ATX mobo
http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/News/223860,and-the-beast-rumbled.aspx
That mobo might just be right to tie together 4 ARES without their lids on.
How are we going with the R&D on the domestic fusion power plant?

So what we really needed was a server for GPU's and someplace we could fit more then 4 cross fire units in one system; FOUND IT ! The Main page, sorry for the drooling, http://content.dell.com/us/en/enterprise/cloud-computing-component-servers.aspx
The closer look at what this top notch whiz bang looks like: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/poweredge-c410x?c=us&l=en&s=biz
Oh and the spec sheet for those of us who will pray the Lottery Ferry picks me on tonight's drawing, Pick me pick me! :blob3: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pedge/en/poweredge-c410x-expansion-slots-specs-en.pdf
Yes I know they are designed for Nvidia, But ATI's would look and work so much better wouldn't they?

That will be a furnace. Specs says:
"Shared redundant cooling with high-efficiency hot-plug 92mm fans"
I think hot-plug is an understatement. Imagine that 3 rack setup in a Server cabinet.
The 92mm fans will be as noisy as hell too.

yup, and when I win the lotto I'm putting in a small building in back of the house with a huge refrigeration unit to cool all those puppies inside down with. The only part I don't have figured out is how I will keep an incoming cashflow to keep the electrical requirements fulfilled for my remaining years of computational ecstasy.................... lol

The problem with all these gpus on the serious side is heat. And that is what is killing the pocket to keep air conditioning units running cause it just literally kills the monthly electrical bill. So I just slowed down significantly in my farming. I mean like the fever is still there, but the purse sure isn't. lol

Wonderful dreaming coming from the masses out there but, I would like to know which GPu's work best on which project? Nvidia or ATI is best on Moo Wrapper, Milkyway, Prime, Collatz, Einstein, etc. :blob3:
P.S. If I have not mentioned a project that uses GPU's please fill in that project too! Thank You :)

Moo Wrapper is ATI (same as rc5-72), Milkyway is nvidia, GPUGRID is nvidia (only), Collatz is ATI, and not sure on Prime Grid, and haven't looked at Einstein. And you also have folding@home, which nvidia is optimized much better there.
GPUGRID wants high end, you need to check which model you are running on their site.
Then you have to factor in the idiosycracies of Boinc if you care to screw around with it too.... <big cheezy grin here>.

Just to add to Brucifer's post ... PrimeGrid - nvidia does really well. Even older cards like 8800GT does OK on it but make sure you are running the sub-project Proth Prime Search (Sieve) for your nvidia cards.

OK Today's reviews of GPU's brought this GPU to the internet for all to see: http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/vtx3d-hd6870-x2-review/ I would like a six pack to go, please! :blob3:

Nice!
"At idle, the card consumes around 36 watts and when gaming this rises to 255 Watts."
I'd need PSU upgrades first though.
That is quite a bit more power draw than my HD5750s which use 18W idle and 180W under load.
I love the fat heat pipes on this model though, and the double fan setup 'should' keep the temps down.
I wonder how noisy that gets at MAX?
When my HD5750 fans go to top speed the put out an ear piercing scream until the heat spike has dissipated, so I don't O/C them any more.
I'd be happy to test one out for you if you like. PM me for my delivery address. I promise to return it in, oh say, 3 years or so. :D

Mine is better then yours is! We all remember that saying, here is AMD saying it a little louder to the masses: http://www.dailytech.com/AMD+Claims+to+Have+Worlds+Fastest+Notebook+GPU/article22125.htm I really do like the First Comment... :blob3:

Here is a review of a GPU with no FANS, look at the size of that monster Heat Sink. That's a whopper! :sad5:
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=790&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=1 I dropped you on the second page, that gives you the best view of the Heat Sink. You can scroll around the sight if this thing really stirs your curiosity. :blob3:
