Socket AM3+, End Of the Line/End Of Life (EOL)?

There's increasing rumour that AMD will stop with the present range of FX CPUs, at least: will stop producing new CPUs for Socket AM3+ (Drat!)
The future is/seems APU as I wrote before, at least: Socket FM2+.

What if AMD does have new FX CPUs, but has them planned for Socket FM2+ as well? They would not be able to use the APU chipsets, but nothing really stands in the way to have FM2+ mobos with different chipsets -just like you can buy Socket 1155 or 1150 mobos with different chipsets, be it that they all support the same CPUs-.

The present range of FM1, FM2 and FM2+ boards all lack something that the AM3 and AM3+ boards did have: real top-of-the-line mobos, e.g.
    • Asrock Fatal1ty/Extreme9
    • ASUS ROG
    • ASUS TUF
    • Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
    • MSI GD80/Power/Gaming

A new range of FM2+ mobos with the long awaited 1090FX chipset might just fit in...and preferably with eight RAM slots too and/or the possibility to add another CPU/APU or coprocessor.

    And DDR4!

    And PCIe 3.0!

    And SATA 3.2!

    And USB 3.1!

    And 10Gb Ethernet!

    ...anything else I forgot?

PCIe 3.0 is already included in the present range of FM2+ mobos! You might start wishing for PCIe 4.0...

But we could do with a beefed-up power design. At present AMD mobos have at best a 8+2 power design, while some Intel based mobos offer up to 32+3+2 phases

At least one of my wishes has been fulfilled: Asrock came with an A88X Fatal1ty mobo, and have brought out a new AM3+ mobo too:

These are gamer mobos though, not what we crunchers are after (I'd prefer the FM2A88X Extreme6+ or the 990FX Extreme9)

    MSI's answer to Asrock's and Gigabyte's A88X gaming mobo's:

    A88X-G45 Gaming

The wait is now for Asus to bring out a Sabertooth and a ROG version in their A88X lineup (and a MSI A88X-G65/G80 Power, plus a Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-UP7)

I found the MSI board interesting and found a bit more info I'm not sure that the AM3 slot is EOL yet as the 9590 build has a bit more horsepower and near 5 ghz per core for gaming can be helpful.

I think we will see yet more -and better- Kaveri boards after the official introduction date, especially here in the Netherlands where the top Gigabyte and Asus boards aren't even sold yet.

The 5GHz FX-9590 is best served with a 560mm (quad 140mm, preferably push-pull) radiator based water cooling, IMHO. The Alphacool NexXxoS Monsta Full Copper 560mm springs into mind

That setup looks like it has potential. The build we did used the cooler provided by AMD and seemed to perform well enough. It is almost silent with the custom settings I setup in the software while crunching 8 cores on WCG. It had a push pull setup with 120mm fans which will fit many more cases without modification. I don't think there was any way to get a corsair h100(2 120mm fans) in a rosewill armor EVO without running into the motherboard. The cases that are ready for the 2 fan radiators are expensive enough. I hate to see the price of a case designed to handle that monster radiator.

In theory you can fit a H100 or H100i inside a Corsair Carbide 200R, which sells for less than 50 Euro's here.
I say in theory. In practice fitting it into the more roomier 300R is hard enough. You might want to install a 560mm radiator on top of your casing though.
Or be creative and install a 360mm front radiator:

I just dunno where he keeps his HDDs or SDDs though...
This can be fitted with at least one 560mm radiator and plenty disks. It isn't cheap though.

Don't have to wait for the FM2+ ROG mobo:

So: the big wait is now for an Asrock FM2+ Extreme 11, an ASUS FM2+ TUF, a Gigabyte FM2+ UP7 and an MSI FM2+ Power mobo
